I was just browsing through my unused flickr account and I noticed a newspaper article we had a long time ago! We had just finished our first year being a university club, and everything seemed good. We had practice 4 times a week, people coming and going and learning new things.

Right now, the University club has potential, but obviously needs new people if it wants to revive it’s activity. On the brighter news, Street Culture Club RY (registered association) has been formed in Lappeenranta! The active members outside of the University grew and grew, and it was clear that a registered Association should be formed! The main officials of the association are Jyri Poikonen, Dimitri Lisitsyn, Anssi Saviluoto and many members of the HC-Meisseli -crew.

According to my records, Street Culture Club (the university club) was formed on 18th of October 2007. That means the club will turn 4 years in only 3 weeks!

Street Culture Club will live forever!!

We interviewed Born after a workshop Hiski and Dimitri attended in Seoul South Korea. Born is talking about the state of bboying in Korea right now, and how things may look bad, but might turn into something very good! Then Hiski met up with Dyzee in Seoul to talk about the OUR Bboys association, and how you can join it!

And finally Hiski and Nyme attended the Monster Jam in Seoul Korea as press. Before the battles he met up and did a small interview with Shorty force from One way crew. A bit unexpectedly(since he is a newcomer), he ended winning the whole jam! Here is the interview and final battle!

We were privileged to have judges Henkka and Matti from Joensuu Bboys, and bboys from all around southern and Eastern Finland. We had many competitions like footwork, toprock, power and hip-hop battles!

Next event will be held on the 2nd of April 2011! So mark your calendars and Don’t miss this one!! Back to practice is coming back! Soon! Just wait and see!

As I am writing, tomorrow we will have Harrastemessut AKA Club fair at the school. It is on wednesday, 15th of september, from 11-14 and SCC will be there to provide some general knowledge about our club. You can come and talk about anything, and you can sing up for our mailing list. You can also do it by e- mailing me:

The first event is also tomorrow, at 18.00 in the Galleria-Aula. There we will have our first lessons of Hip-Hop and Breakdance. Helen from StreetSoul.fi will come and give an example lesson of her classes downtown, and I we will also have our first class of Breakdance/bboying basics. Please come and try both! Or if you want to only try bboying, come at 7pm!

Remember, you do not need to have danced before at all! Helen teaches basic and advanced classes in her school. Here at the university we will have 1 month of basic bboying lessons every week, and if you want more practice, or if you do not need a basics class you can come to our crew practices. Don’t be shy! It is not serious, we just have fun!

Street Culture Club took their first step in the game of real event organizing when we decided to organize a hip-hop bboy practice jam on 25th of september!

Come to the Lappeenranta University of Technology, go around the building from the right and come to the Gymnasium of the university. There will be bboys from all around eastern, and hopefully everywhere in Finland, there will be DJ Miha playing dope breaks and there will be a great sound system from our TECHMU- club for electronic music!

You can come and participate, or just watch too! The event will be open from 12am to 19pm. At 3pm we have some playful bboy competititons and a show from the local Street Soul hip-hop dance school dancers!

In the evening we will have an open Sauna for everyone interested about the event and dancing at Punkkerikatu 5. The Sauna is warm from 8-10pm, and there is a possibility to sleep at the Club room at the Sauna if you are coming from far away. We will also provide you with matrices if you are about to do that!

I went to see Cyon Finals at the Olympic Park’s Olympic hall. Man, that was a big event! Here’s some footage including some shots of the place, judge showcases and a just a couple of runs from the first battle between TG breakers and Fusion Mind Crew:

My time here in Korea is also starting come to an end. Only exactly one more month and I’ll start my journey back home. I’ll be in Finland for sure in August. Catch everyone then!
